| Introduction |

The School of Energy and Power Engineering, dated back to the Dept. of Power Engineering, was founded in 1964. Being one of the oldest three departments, it has experienced a long historical path. Now the school consists of 7 professors (3 Doctor degree supervisors), 13 Associate Professors and 28 faculty members who hold Doctor and Master degrees (67% of total faculties). Currently there are 598 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students in this school. Since the founding more than 3000 B.S. students and about 200 Doctor and Master students have graduated from this branch. Currently, the school holds the Postdoctoral Research Station in Power and Thermal Physics, and grants the doctoral degree inc and Fluid Machinery and the Master degree in Thermal Physics, Thermal Energy, and Fluid Machinery. Of the above, the Fluid Machinery Major is the National Key Major, and the Power Engineering is the Jiangsu Provincial Key Major. The School has two undergraduate majors: Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, and Fluid Machinery and Engineering. It has following special divisions: Fluid Machinery and Engineering, Thermal Energy Engineering, Thermal Physics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. There are 4 laboratories and 1 computation center. Since the founding of the school, great success has been made in teaching, scientific research and training of qualified graduates. Our teachers pay great attention to the work in classroom and won first three prizes in teaching contests of the university many times. Our graduates have received high praises from their working units of industry and many have been promoted to important positions. The school also achieved success in scientific research. Since the founding it has completed projects with 8 National Natural Science Funding, 2 Doctor Station Funding, 5 Young Scientists Funding, and more than 200 research projects of Provincial and Ministry's funding. Recent years we have published 200 more research articles with many being indexed by EI and SCI, and more than 10 academic books, There are also 20 more patents being granted. The school has active academic exchange and cooperation with outside world. It has built the relationship with about 100 companies and research institutes in research and development of new technology. The academic exchange spans to universities of USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, Austria and Thailand, including scientific exchange and cooperation, scholar's exchange and personal training. Over 10 faculties who have studied abroad are now active in this school. As we are stepping into the 21st century, the School of Energy and Power Engineering are striving towards the goal of providing a first-class education in the 21st century. Since the reform and open-door policy was put into practice, the School has initially formed the multilevel and multistandard style for advancing the engineering sciences. The department has conducted a series of reforms to improve our teaching with emphasis on research and innovation. These reforms aim to train 21st century professionals with breadth of knowledge, great motivation for their work, and ability to pursue scientific research. We can hear the steps of the high-tech era, which challenges the School of Energy and Power Engineering to strive for ever higher goals. With the reform and opening to the outside world and with the educational system reform, the faculty of the School of Energy and Power Engineering welcome eagerly the challenges of the 21st century, and will contribute greatly to the advancement of Jiangsu University into a first-class university in China. |
| Major of Fluid Machinery & Engineering |

We cultivate students to become qualified technicians of high-quality in fluid machinery & fluid engineering field. They will be qualified to design, manufacture & develop fluid machinery of various kinds. They will be also qualified to finish such work as application research, operation management & sales. Students will learn those specialized courses such as principle of fluid machinery, CAD in fluid machinery, pump & blower, hydraulic turbine, seals & valves, measurement & testing technology of fluid machinery, strength calculation in fluid machinery, automatic control of fluid machinery operation, flow theory in hydraulic machines, fluid jet technology, optimum designing method, calculation method of finite units etc., besides the public & technical basic courses study during their four years' study in our department of Jiangsu University. The students will have a good grasp of the basic theories & broad professional knowledge when they graduate. Then they will have ability to communicate in foreign language & to apply computer skillfully. They will have those basic skills such as mechanic drawing, calculation & testing, information gaining & production operations. The students can be employed by research institutes, factories, colleges & universities and companies, which are related to pumps, hydraulic turbines, blowers and compressors of various kinds. They can engage themselves in one of these jobs as scientific research, products and engineering design, teaching, technology development, management & administration and sales etc. They have great advantages over other students in competing for a higher degree study in other related scientific disciplines. |
| Major of Hydrodynamics |

The main assignment of the staff room of hydrodynamics is to finish the teaching of the course on hydrodynamics. We are engaged on the research of the foundation theory and the application in the engineering on the hydromechanics. The staff room has 10 members, including 1 professor (Doctor degree supervisor),3 associate professor (or high-engineer),2 lecturer(or engineer),2 doctors and 3 masters in active service. Now we have teaching curriculums of the engineering hydrodynamic on enginery, the hydrodynamic on power machine, the advanced hydrodynamic, the calculation hydrodynamic, the two-Phase flow and several-Phase flow, the plumbing technology of laser Doppler, etc... |

The Major of Thermal Energy and Building Environment Engineering over a long period of time the cleanliness be engaged in the coaled burn research, regarding CFB technique as primarily rely on the technique, and proceed application study with technique development. The school put great emphasis on education of the student to study boiler, coal that new knowledge of after ability, student have the extensive orientation ability with expand the ability, student to graduate can be engaged in the research of boiler 、gas stove and its thermodynamic energy equipments, development, design, manufacturing work. The thermal power plant, hot power station manage the work with the movement of the system of other thermodynamic energy equipments, and also can arrive various factory of coal gas company, hot electricity company and machine, chemical engineering, building materials, metallurgy, light industry etc. to be engaged in the energy management with the stanza to can work, and also can arrive science the research department, university and college to be engaged in the science of researching and teaching job. |
| Major of Thermal Physical Engineering |

The Major of Thermal Physical Engineering, was established in 1982. The Major has five sections: combustion engineering, micro power mechanical systems and control, engineering thermal fluid dynamics,thermal measurements and new energy research and utilization. Many research projects completed by the Major of Thermal Physical Engineering have been recognized with awards from the central government and some ministries and provinces. The Major of Thermal Physical Engineering trains students in engineering design, experimental research and engineering management in the following areas: clean combustion techniques, optimization and simulation of power systems and devices, and micro power mechanical engineering and control, energy research and utilization. The Major grants undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees in thermal physical engineering. The Major now has 2 professors, 3 associate professors, and 4 teachers. The Major is striving towards the goal of providing a world-class education in the 21st century. Many research projects in the Major of Thermal Physical Engineering are promoting the development of the Chinese energy and power systems and are being applied in Chinese industry including many fundamental research projects, such as the China National Science Foundation projects, etc. In recent years, the Major of Thermalphysical Engineering has received 1 National Invention Awards, 7 Science and Technology Progress Awards by ministries or provinces, The Major of Thermal physical Engineering also owns 4 patents, 180 papers has been published in many authoritative magazines. As we review our Major's 20 year history as we step into the 21st century, we will strive for ever higher goals. |
